Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has warned their World Cup final opponents that his team are getting stronger as the tournament goes on.
A defeat to Saudi Arabia left Argentina in crisis but they have since beaten Mexico, Poland, Australia, Netherlands and Croatia to move to the brink of a first World Cup trophy since 1986.
Martinez was the hero against Netherlands but was barely troubled in the 3-0 semi-final win over Croatia.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper told Argentinian newspaper Clarin: “Since I started playing in this team, we are getting better and better. We are not the Copa America team. We are not the Finalissima team. We are one step ahead.”
Lionel Messi, who scored one and assisted another in the win over Croatia, is expected to be fit for the final despite some minor discomfort picked up in the semi-final.
